 Marla Saltzman, M.A., B.C.B.A.

Marla Saltzman co-founded ABI because of all of her experiences in the field of autism and behavior analysis, what she loves most is working with clients, designing and implementing programs and sharing in their day to day progress.  Marla is a certified behavior analyst who has specialized in the treatment of children with autism, Asperger’s syndrome, and PDD since 1995.

In 1996, Marla began working with the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD), where she held a variety of positions ranging from therapist (Behavior Intervention Implementation) to Senior Clinical Supervisor.   In 1999, Marla’s interest in providing behavioral treatment for children with autism took her to Sydney, Australia where she established and managed a well respected practice, providing treatment and consultation to over 100 children and their families in Australia and New Zealand.   Upon her return to the United States 3 years later, Marla continued designing individualized ABA based programs for young children, while at the same time traveling throughout the United States and internationally, training parents and autism professionals to provide the most effective treatment to children with autism.  During this time, she  and colleagues designed a language curriculum as well as a variety of live and internet based trainings for implementers and designers of behavioral intervention.  This curriculum incorporates both verbal behavior and linguistic frameworks, which together result in the most comprehensive language curriculum available.

Marla received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with Honors from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.  She went on to received her Master of Arts in Psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno’s Behavior Analysis Program where she was her class’ valedictorian.  At UNR, she received extensive training in behavioral assessment and intervention, verbal behavior, and behavior analysis in education.  Marla has presented at numerous conferences both in the United States and abroad, including the Association for Behavior Analysis (ABA), the California Association for Behavior Analysis (Cal ABA), and the Florida Association for Behavior Analysis (FABA).

Marla specializes in the provision of Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and Natural Environment Training (NET).  She has extensively studied and applied both linguistic and verbal behavior (VB) frameworks for teaching language to children with autism and has a particular interest in the application of the verbal behavior framework to the treatment of children with autism.  In addition, she has extensive experience with the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and other forms of augmentative communication.  Finally, she has received extensive training in teaching advanced language, academics, and Theory of Mind to children with High Functioning Autism, PDD, and Asperger’s Syndrome.
