Maureen
co- founded ABI out of a desire to offer a highly personalized,
superior quality treatment program to help each child reach his or her
maximum potential. Maureen
is a certified behavior analyst who has specialized in the treatment
of autism and related disorders for over 10 years.
Maureen first began working with children with autism under the
supervision of Dr. Bridget Taylor in 1994.
From 1995 to 2004, Maureen worked with Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh
at the Center for Autism & Related Disorders (CARD) where she
progressed from the position of Clinic Supervisor to Managing
Supervisor to Senior Managing Supervisor.
Throughout her tenure at CARD, Maureen conducted initial
treatment planning and assessment, designed behaviorally based
intervention to teach language, play, and other essential skills,
trained staff, and worked directly with clients. In addition to her
finely tuned clinical skills, Maureen honed her managerial skills,
managing both CARD’s San Diego and North Los Angeles branches. As a manager, Maureen was responsible for supervising the
work of over 30 clinical and administrative staff members.
Maureen
received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of
California, San Diego (UCSD) and her Master of Arts in Psychology from
the University of Nevada, Reno’s Behavior Analysis Program.
Maureen
has specialized experience implementing a variety of behavior analytic
teaching techniques including Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and
Natural Environment Training (NET).
She has also studied both linguistic and verbal behavior
frameworks for teaching language to children with autism.
In addition, she has experience with the Picture Exchange
Communication System (PECS) and other forms of augmentative
communication. Finally,
she has received extensive training in teaching advanced language,
academics, and Theory of Mind to children with High Functioning
Autism, PDD, and Asperger’s Syndrome.
